Leaving Las Vegas

I’ve been off the radar lately, but that doesn’t mean that I haven’t been busy! A lot has happened in the last month or so, so let’s get up to speed.

Home Sweet Home

The first item of note is that I am now back in Texas doing my own thing. I actually have been for some time, but didn’t feel in any hurry to announce it. Apparently the word is out, and it’s no secret on my part, so consider it confirmed. It’s nice being home.

I have received some questions recently about my status with QuadJacks. As many of you know, I took on a reduced role late last year and stopped regularly hosting on the radio program. However, I continued assisting behind the scenes and occasionally appeared on the show. That is not the case now, and I am no longer working with QuadJacks.

I am proud of the work I did at QuadJacks and don’t regret the time I spent in Las Vegas. I met a lot of interesting people, made some friends, learned a ton, and had a great time. Now it’s time for me to move on. Marco and Zac are continuing to do excellent work, and I wish them the best of luck.

View Explosion

A lot of people have asked me what the hell is going on with my YouTube channel. At the time of this writing, the videos on my channel have 2,076,186 views. Much of this is accounted for by Messageboard Grinder, which currently has about 1.4 million views. Black and Yellow has also picked up steam with about 270k views.

Part of this has to do with YouTube’s algorithm for search results and suggested videos. The more views and “likes” a video has, the more “authority” it gets. This means that YouTube is more likely to place it in the related videos sidebar if it has any relevance to the video you’re currently watching. It’s obviously more complex than that, but those are the basics. When Messageboard Grinder reached about 120,000 views it started appearing more and more on the related videos sidebar. The fact that Jenn Kaelin in all her chesty glory is featured on the thumbnail enticed a lot of people to click on it. The rest is history.

A similar thing happened with Black and Yellow. Once it reached ~140,000 views, it started ranking higher for the search term “Black and Yellow”. This keyword phrase currently gets about 900,000 searches a month, and at last check, my video is ranked 4th or 5th in the search results.

Searches and related videos currently account for about 80% of the views for those two videos.

Now what?

I have been spending a lot of time on a business unrelated to poker or music. It’s going far better than expected, so I intend to keep at it. However, this doesn’t mean that I’m going to stop creating music. In fact, I plan to step up my efforts.

Subscribers to my mailing list received an e-mail yesterday that included a full preview of my next song. I intend to release it some time in the next few days. I encourage you all to sign up for the mailing list via the form on the right side of this page. You’ll be first in line to see previews of projects I’m working on and cool stuff like that.

I’m also setting up an account with iTunes and other distribution outlets. People ask me all the time where they can download my music. I can’t promise that past songs will become available, but I intend to make all future releases available there.

I’ve been experimenting recently with different topics in songs. This is something I’ll continue to do, but I’m not ignoring poker. Poker is still something I’m intensely interested in, and I appreciate all the support I get from the community. If you don’t care about the other stuff I’m dabbling in and just want more poker content, that’s cool. I’ve got you covered.

That’s all for now. Keep your eyes peeled for that new song!
